The police officers of the Régie de police Thérèse-De Blainville searched on Friday, January 28th, a warehouse located in the industrial sector of the city of Boisbriand. They recovered three stolen vehicles that were destined for overseas export. The search took place in a building located on Curé Boivin Boulevard. The RIPTB was able to locate the place thanks to information received from the public.
“The vehicles have been reported stolen over the past few weeks. These are vehicles of the GMC Sierra, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Honda Pilot brands and models,” explained Martin Charron, spokesperson for the RIPTB. The vehicles have all been seized for expert appraisal and will be returned to their owners in the coming days. Prevention:
The Régie de police Thérèse-De Blainville warns car owners that although technologies used in vehicles are evolving so are theft techniques!
This is the case with electronic theft, a method used by thieves that targets cars equipped with a remote key or a keyless push-button start device. Thieves remotely pick up the transmitter signal from the electronic key fob or the vehicle’s computer system itself to unlock and steal it without having to damage the lock.
Measures to counter theft according to the RIPTB:
- Never leave the engine running unattended and the keys in the car.
- Always lock your vehicle.
- At home, store your keys in a safe place, away from front doors or, especially if it is an electronic key.
- Park your vehicle in a garage or in a well-lit area.
- Do not leave insurance and registration certificates in the car.
- Place your belongings in the vehicle out of sight.
- Ask about marking parts or installing a tracking system. Several insurers may offer discounts for this type of protection.
