Much awaited by citizens of all generations, the new aquatic center will include four pools, the main one consisting of eight lanes 25 meters in length and diving platforms, allowing high-level training and the holding of regional competitions. Annexed to the main pool, three recreational pools will delight children, adolescents and fans of swimming against the tide. In addition, the Center Aquatique du Lac will be aimed at the entire population, with its universal cloakroom, regardless of age or physical condition, and will be specially designed for people with reduced mobility, in accordance with the concept of universal accessibility. .

In harmony with nature

The Center Aquatique du Lac was designed to reflect the soul of the city and its residents, both in the choice of location, near Félix-Leclerc Park and the bike path, and in the project design. The proximity of the lake, the trees and the nature that emerges from the plans and models is sure to please everyone. The layout and orientation of the building will enhance the natural environment all around, and the abundant windows will reinforce the feeling of proximity to the outside. A redevelopment of Parc Félix-Leclerc is planned in the project, as well as landscaping including massive planting of new trees.

Timeline

The project design (architecture and engineering) is carried out by the TLA + Coursol Miron consortium and the GBI engineering firm. The next step for the realization of the project consists of the call for tenders for the construction of the building. The first shovelful of earth is expected in June 2021 and an official opening is targeted at the end of 2022, with construction scheduled to take place over 18 months.

“I know how much the aquatic center is desired by all citizens, because they talk to me about it regularly. It is a project that is close to my heart, especially since we do it while respecting the environment and especially in the image of Marthelacquoises and Marthelacquois: a project with a human dimension. We want a beautiful center that will generate moments of pleasure, relaxation and surpassing oneself, in addition to arousing pride in our population.” said the mayoress.
