Tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was stolen during a brazen smash-and-grab robbery at Place Rosemère. The heist, allegedly carried out by a group of young suspects, was completed in just 80 seconds.
The incident unfolded on September 21 at Bijouterie Ricci when several masked individuals made their way directly to the store. Armed with hammers, they shattered display cases and grabbed merchandise before making a quick escape. Security footage and videos captured by bystanders documented much of the robbery as it unfolded.
Pepper spray was reportedly used during the attack, affecting several people nearby and prompting assistance from emergency responders. Some merchants reportedly locked themselves inside their stores while shoppers moved away from the area for safety. Witness-recorded videos circulating online show the suspects smashing showcases while onlookers watched from a distance
The robbery triggered a major police operation. The Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville was assisted by officers from Saint-Eustache, Montreal and the Sûreté du Québec. Police located the suspects after they allegedly abandoned their vehicle and attempted to flee on foot toward High School Jean-Jacques-Rousseau in Boisbriand.
On September 22, police confirmed the arrest of four suspects, including three minors aged 13, 15 and 17, along with a 19-year-old man. A fifth suspect remains at large as the investigation continues. Authorities also reported recovering the stolen jewelry.
