Courses at Lionel-Groulx for registered nurses from outside Quebec

Nineteen nurses from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia began their refresher training at Collège Lionel-Groulx in Sainte-Thérèse on February 6, 2023. This training, which will be spread over 9 to 12 months, will allow them to occupy a position in one of the facilities of the Laurentides Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS).

37 professionals with foreign degrees were selected for the Laurentians region for their skills and work experience comparable to those of employees of health and social services establishments in Quebec. They are divided into two cohorts: 19 nurses are starting their refresher training in Sainte-Thérèse, while 18 nurses, who are based in Mont-Laurier, begun on February 20. At the end of this training, an Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC) will be issued to them. This approach will allow them to improve their knowledge and accelerate the recognition of their skills in order to be able to take the exam of the Ordre des nurses du Québec (OIIQ) and obtain their license to practice.

During their studies at Cégep Lionel-Groulx in Sainte-Thérèse, these students will work as orderlies at the Center d’hébergement Hubert-Maisonneuve. These candidates have agreed to stay in the region for three years and to practice nursing in the various facilities of the CISSS des Laurentides.

For the President and CEO of the CISSS des Laurentides, Ms. Rosemonde Landry, the arrival of these workers is excellent news for the organization. “We are proud to welcome these new employees who will come to support our network. As the largest employer in the region, the CISSS des Laurentides must do everything possible to welcome and integrate these professionals. A project of this magnitude could not be realized without the support and committed work of our leading collaborators, namely the Ministry of Immigration, Francisation and Integration, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of the Family and the Department of Health and Social Services,” she said.

For Collège Lionel-Groulx, this project fits perfectly with its mission, which aims to train generations of humanist and civic-minded students in a caring environment. “Accessibility to higher education is a daily concern and that is why this project makes us so proud. The diversity of college pathways makes it possible to better meet the needs of both students and the labor market,” said Director General Michel Louis Beauchamp.

The deployment of this project in the southern part of the region is based on significant collaborative work by several other players, including Collège Lionel-Groulx and the community organization ABL Immigration Basses-Laurentides. A lot of effort has been made to welcome students from their arrival at the airport to their accommodation in their new home. Municipalities and RCMs also play an important role in the community integration of these students.

The plush toy of your dreams!

The children of Sainte-Thérèse will be happy to learn that the “plush toy of your dreams” contest is back for a third year. Young people aged 5 to 12 are invited to draw a fantastic animal or creature and it could become reality!

The lucky winner will see their work become a plush key ring format, 1000 of which will be distributed during the Christmas Village. In addition, the creator of the drawing will have a VIP experience during the Great Illumination of the Village of Sainte‑Thérèse 2023, when their plush toy will be unveiled with great fanfare according to the city’s announcement.

To enter, kids need to simply draw an animal or fantasy creature on a white letter-size paper (8.5 x 11 inches). Only one entry per person is accepted for the duration of the contest. It is better not to put too many details to facilitate the production. However, there is no limit to creativity, the more original, the better. On the back, the child must write his name and age as well as the full contact information of one of his parents and then send his drawing to the City before March 31, either by mail or email with the subject Le toutou de tes rêves

At the library, during school pedagogical days and spring break, kids will have paper and pencils on site to create your drawing. Once finished, they can just hand it over to a library employee.

“I invite young Thérésiennes and Thérésiens, aged 5 to 12, to get out their colored pencils to participate in large numbers in the contest Le toutou de tes rêves. It’s a unique chance to see your creation all over the city while hundreds of children will carry around with your plush toy! », said the mayor of the City of Sainte-Thérèse, Mr. Christian Charron. The contest is reserved for residents of Sainte-Thérèse.

Screening of the documentary Tout déballer

As part of World Recycling Day, the city of Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac invited its residents to attend the screening of the documentary Tout déballer, free of charge on March 17 at 6:30pm at the community center. The screening will be followed by a question period with Marie-Christine Thibault from Éco Entreprises Québec. Drawings and crayons will also be available on site for children accompanying their parents.

This documentary, produced by Sylvain Allard and Sophie Lambert in collaboration with Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ) and the School of Design of the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), lifts the veil on the complex system that lies behind packaging. As a graphic designer and professor at the UQAM School of Design, Sylvain Allard sought to explore, to better understand in order to better define, the role of the designer and his responsibility in the search for solutions to environmental issues related to our modes of production and consumption, of which packaging is one of the most important. He therefore went to meet various stakeholders and leaders involved in the ideation, design, marketing and end-of-life management of packaging to survey experts on the issue. Unpacking everything also aims to inform and educate consumers about their responsible and thoughtful consumption choices, but also about the role they play in the proper management of end-of-life packaging.

Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ) is a private non-profit organization representing companies that market containers, packaging and printed matter in their responsibility to finance the costs of efficient and effective municipal curbside recycling services. As an expert, ÉEQ optimizes the curbside recycling value chain and implements innovative approaches, with a view to sustainable development and the circular economy.
