Police officers are most often encountered during emergencies, investigations or traffic stops. At Lorraine’s Family Day, however, the atmosphere was decidedly more relaxed.

Officers and police cadets from the Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville joined the Aug. 29 celebration to meet residents, speak with families and answer their questions.

The event gave members of the public an opportunity to approach police personnel informally and speak with the people behind the uniforms. According to the Régie, the conversations also helped strengthen its relationship with the community.

The presence of police cadets brought another dimension to the exchanges. Working alongside officers, the cadets greeted visitors and participated in the day’s community outreach.

For families, it was a chance to connect with their local police service away from the pressure of an emergency. For the officers and cadets, it offered direct contact with the residents they serve in the welcoming setting of a municipal celebration.

Following the event, the Régie thanked the City of Lorraine for organizing Family Day and expressed its appreciation to everyone who stopped by to meet its representatives.
