United to counter dating violence and equip the population

The domestic and family violence discussion groups of Deux-Montagnes – south of Mirabel, of Rivière-du-Nord – North Mirabel, of Thérèse-De Blainville and of Argenteuil united to create a website on romantic relationships and separation: www.violenceconjugale.ca . The pandemic has revealed social fragilities and Quebec news has been marked by several feminicides and infanticides in contexts of domestic and family violence. Many of these acts were committed in the context of separation, a most dangerous moment for women who are victims of domestic violence and sometimes for their children.

The website is part of a process started in 2019-2020 that led to the creation of the magazine “Separation: survival guide”. The pandemic may have slowed down the creation and launch of the website, but at the same time has highlighted its usefulness and provided an opportunity to update information to reflect current issues (LGBTQ+, Indigenous, etc.). The round tables aim to provide the population with tools to enable people struggling with a situation of domestic violence, but also their loved ones, to recognize the signs of violence and to act before it is too late by seeking ugly.

The domestic and family violence consultation tables bring together several partners concerned by the problem: shelters for women victims of violence and their children, women’s centres, organization offering help to men with violent behavior (ACCROC), crime victims assistance center (CAVAC), police services, mental health and street work organizations, CISSS des Laurentides, DPJ, etc. The creation of the site was made possible thanks to the financial support of the CISSS des Laurentides for consultations on domestic and family violence.

Circulation of respiratory infections

0
A call for vigilance from the Laurentians Public Health Department

The Public Health Department of the Laurentians Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) invited the population to redouble caution in the face of the increased circulation of various respiratory infections observed throughout Quebec.

Due to age, chronic illness, or immunosuppression, some people are at risk of developing complications from infection with a respiratory virus, such as influenza, COVID-19, and the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). In addition, infection with pneumococcal bacteria can occur following infection with a respiratory virus. Consequently, public health invites North Shore residents to remain vigilant and take

the right steps to prevent the transmission and spread of respiratory infections in order to protect

the most vulnerable.

In case of respiratory symptoms, follow these recommendations:

If you have a fever, stay home;

If you have a cough, sore throat or stuffy nose, wear a mask.

In busy public places, it is also recommended to wear a mask.

At all times, wash your hands, as frequent washing helps limit the spread of infections.

Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others

Dr. Éric Goyer, director of public health for the Laurentians, reminded the population that it is also important to ensure that the recommended vaccinations against an infection are up to date and, if necessary, to get a dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, influenza and pneumococcal disease for those who are at high risk of complications.

“We are monitoring the evolution of respiratory infections very closely. While the entire province

is experiencing the flu season, because of a significant circulation of respiratory viruses which particularly affect young children as well as an increase in COVID-19, we encourage the population to apply protective measures in order to help them preserve their health and that of their loved ones. We would like to remind you that vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself and we  invite the population at risk to be vaccinated according to public health recommendations,” said Dr. Éric Goyer, director of public health for the Laurentians.

The flu vaccine does not protect against COVID-19. For all eligible persons, it is possible to receive the flu, COVID-19 and pneumococcal vaccination during the same vaccination session. There is no time limit between these vaccines. Here is where to get vaccinated in the Laurentians and how to make an appointment:

At vaccination sites:
