Boisbriand neighborhood shaken by car explosion

A Porsche is destroyed after being engulfed in flames in Boisbriand

The suspicious explosion of a Porsche in a Boisbriand parking lot on this past Monday thee 15th of August 2022 morning literally shook an entire neighbourhood, where residents are nonetheless accustomed to calm.

“I swear to you, I had never heard anything so noisy, said Jacqueline Francoeur to the media. She lives not far from the crime scene. It was dreadful. Citizens who were jolted from their sleep around 3:30 a.m. contacted 911 on Monday when they found that a major fire had broken out on rue des Francs-Bourgeois. This Porsche targeted by a suspicious explosion is a total loss after being ravaged by flames. The fire occurred around 3:30 a.m. Monday the 15th of August in a parking lot in Boisbriand.

A Porsche probably exploded before falling prey to imposing flames which rose very high in the sky. “I went out to look in my yard. I just saw lots of fire,” said a local resident, whose car was only a few meters from the one that was targeted. The 19-year-old young man specified that the burned vehicle is regularly in this parking lot. When we passed, however, only its broken fire-ravaged hull remained, gnawed by the flames.

A resident in the neighborhood also claimed to have seen a man dressed in black quickly leave the scene of the crime. Most of the residents mentioned being shaken by the gravity of the event, but still felt safe.

Related to other crimes?

The Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville indicated that it was collaborating with other police organizations, because this event could be linked to other crimes that have occurred in various territories. “It’s a signature that we recognize,” said spokesperson Martin Charron. No injuries were reported to authorities.

Patrice Paquette, president of the Economic Development Commission and municipal councilor of the City of Saint-Eustache; John Tourlas, North America president of Medicom; Pierre Charron, Mayor of the City of Saint-Eustache; Mr. Guillaume Laverdure, Chief Operating Officer of Medicom; Christian Bellemare, Director General of the City of Saint-Eustache.

The Innoparc Albatros will soon welcome the manufacturer Meltech Innovation, a new division of Groupe Medicom inc. (Medicom), which will be dedicated to the production and innovation of the central material that goes into the manufacture of surgical and pediatric masks, and N95 type respirators. This undertaking will increase the resilience of Canada and Quebec in their ability to face future pandemics. This investment will ensure frontline healthcare workers continue to have a reliable local supply of personal protective equipment.

To this end, the City of Saint Eustache has entered into an agreement with the company for the sale of three lots in its business park, representing nearly 18,500 m2 located on Allée du Golf. Meltech Innovation will invest nearly $40 million in this large-scale project, which will create nearly 30 jobs.

The new Medicom plant will be built in harmony with its environment. In fact, production will be powered by hydroelectricity and a waste reduction plan will be put in place. In addition, Medicom is committed to reforesting the site by planting more than 40 trees and creating a polliniferous garden for bees and butterflies. To provide the most pleasant work environment for employees, the new facility will also be able to count on bicycle racks, charging stations for electric vehicles, a training room, showers and a meditation room.

Finally, the Government of Canada is financially supporting this highly strategic project for the resilience of the local supply chain through the Strategic Innovation Fund.

“We are more than proud of the choice made by Medicom, a flagship of the industry, to expand its activities in the Innoparc Albatros, to generate quality jobs and thus to contribute in such a significant way to the economic growth of Saint-Eustache. We welcome and wish this innovative company good luck! “, said the mayor of Saint-Eustache, Mr. Pierre Charron.

From his part the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry of Canada, the Honorable François-Philippe Champagnesaid that the health and safety of Canadians is his government’s priority. “This is why we have announced an investment of nearly $30 million in 2021 to enable Meltech Innovation to set up its new factory specializing in the manufacture of personal protective equipment. With this new facility in Saint-Eustache, we are promoting Canadian solutions and ensuring that front-line healthcare workers have a reliable supply of personal protective equipment, in addition to creating good jobs in the region”.

Héma-Québec stops by Thérèse-De-Blainville PD

This summer, Héma-Québec invites North Shore citizens to take an essential step and give meaning to life by donating blood. Hundreds of people need a donation to recover their health. To make it easier for donors, a collection is organized in Sainte-Thérèse, under the honorary presidency of Mrs. Claudia Tremblay-Cadieux. Héma-Québec is hoping locals will make an appointment and perhaps even make a habit of it

The location is the Thérèse-De-Blainville Intermunicipal Police Authority at 150, boul. Ducharme in Sainte-Thérèse. The blood collection will take place on Monday, August 29, 2022, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. The objective is to convince 115 donors to roll up their sleeves for a small blood donation.

In order to avoid queues and to respect everyone’s busy schedules, Héma-Québec have set up an appointment system. This way of doing things, born out of the pandemic, has been tested and makes the blood donation experience even easier for everyone. Donors can make an appointment online at jedonne.hema-quebec.qc.ca/ or call 1 800 343-7264 (SANG).

Because blood is perishable and cannot be stored for long, some 1,000 blood donations are needed every day to ensure an optimal level of reserve. To do this, Héma-Québec is counting on the generosity of Quebecers to roll up their sleeves during the summer.

Before going to a blood drive, donors can always check their eligibility with Donor Customer Service at 1 800 847-2525 or consult the Héma-Québec website at www.hema-quebec.qc. ca, section Donors > Blood > Can I donate?

 About Héma-Québec

Héma-Québec’s mission is to efficiently meet the needs of the Québec population for blood and other quality biological products of human origin. Héma-Québec has more than 1,400 employees, nearly 225,000 blood, stem cell, breast milk and human tissue donors, in addition to thousands of volunteers at blood collection sites. Héma-Québec annually delivers nearly 750,000 biological products of human origin to hospitals in Québec to meet the needs of patients.

Chemin d’Oka: a party street reconstructed in Deux-Montagnes

Deux-Montagnes en fête is back for a 6th time this summer, after two years of cancellation due to the pandemic. The organisers are inviting the population to take part in the festivities on August 20th, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Just like the previous versions, the event will be held on chemin d’Oka, between 12th and 16th Avenue.

According to the city, Deux-Montagnes en fête is the perfect opportunity to discover more about the City through local organizations and merchants who will be presenting their products at their stands and to learn more about the various services offered, while having fun! To entertain children and adults alike, several on-street activities are planned: inflatable games, kids makeup, smoothie bike, electric car test drives, giant games and more!

It is also an opportunity to board a fire truck, a police vehicle and a city truck, which the organisers vow to be greatly appreciated by the whole family!

“We are happy to be able to welcome back the population to this festive event, which allows all to find out more about our services and those offered by our partner organizations who make up our beautiful community”, said Denis Martin, mayor of Deux-Montagnes.

While Oka Street will be holding the festivities, at the same time it will be getting some much-needed renos. The City of Deux-Montagnes announced the reconstruction of the chemin d’Oka, between 20th Avenue and the limit of Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, as well as the reconstruction of 26th Avenue, between chemin d’Oka and the shore of Lac des Deux Montagnes. Work begun on Monday, August 8, and will run approximately until mid-November.

Work on chemin d’Oka will consist of replacing valve chambers on the aqueduct main, repairing sidewalks and rebuilding the roadway. Repaving work will also be carried out on a portion of 26th Avenue, south of Chemin d’Oka.

Detour routes and local traffic

• Local traffic will be allowed and detour signs will be installed.

• The boat ramp at the end of 26th Avenue will remain accessible, except for certain periods when the Avenue needs to be closed for a short time. Citizens are invited to regularly consult the Public Works Info section of the website.

• Armitage Park will be accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. Citizens who are used to getting there by car will have to park in the surrounding streets. However, the City strongly encourages Armitage Park users to get there by foot or by bike during the work. Flaggers will ensure traffic at the intersection.

Also, considering the heavy machinery that will be circulating all around Armitage Park, parents are called upon to be extra vigilant towards the little ones who run and play in the park.

A new general manager for the City of Sainte-Thérèse

Saint Louis street gets orange-coned

On August 4, during a special meeting, the municipal council proceeded to the appointment of Mr. Christian Schryburt as new general manager of the City of Sainte-Thérèse. Mr. Schryburt will officially take office on September 12 to replace Ms. Chantal Gauvreau, who has held this position for the past 15 years.

Mr. Schryburt has several years of experience as general manager, having held this position with the City of Lorraine from 2012 to present, as well as with the City of Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard from 2010 to 2012. Holding a bachelor’s degree in physical education and an MBA in management of cities and metropolises, Mr. Schryburt has also been vice-president of the Association of Municipal Directors General of Quebec since 2020.

“It is with immense joy that we welcome Mr. Schryburt as the new Director General of the City of Sainte-Thérèse. His experience, his qualities as a manager, his enthusiasm and his contagious energy make him the perfect candidate for our City, a choice that was unanimously accepted by the elected officials of our municipality. I take this opportunity to thank Ms. Gauvreau from the bottom of my heart for her dedication over all these years, as well as for her professionalism during this transition,” said the mayor of Sainte-Thérèse, Mr. Christian Charron.

Infrastructure work on rue Saint-Louis

From August 8 to October 14, a major project will take place on rue Saint-Louis, between boulevard Ducharme and rue Saint-Charles (including the two intersections).

Detours and parking

For the duration of the work, a detour plan will be in effect. However, this could be called upon to change depending on the progress of the work. Considering the start of the school year, which will bring a high level of traffic to the area, citizens and visitors are encouraged by the city to plan their trips.

The bus routes that cross this sector will be modified as of August 8. The city is asking the residents not to park their vehicles on the streets affected by the work in order to allow the execution of site operations. Parking on nearby streets should be preferred.

Nature of the work

As the drinking water and sewer system has become dilapidated, this major work will make it possible to rejuvenate these infrastructures which have reached the end of their useful life. In addition, a separate storm sewer system and a 400 m3 will be built.

Finally, the pedestrian crossing at the intersection of boul. Ducharme and rue Saint-Louis will be redeveloped and the median strip south of boul. Ducharme will be shortened to allow access to the CPE Fanfan Soleil parking lot. Tactile plaques will be installed at the major crossings of rue Saint-Charles and boul. Ducharme.

Thérèse de Blainville PD and Place Rosemère renew their collaboration

The signatories of the agreement, Mr. Brian Deslauriers, General Manager of Place Rosemère and Mr. Martin Charron, inspector at the RIPTB. Also present: Mr. Jérémie Gendron, security supervisor, Mrs. Diane Brown, director of operations at Place Rosemère, sergeant Karine Desaulniers and agent Éric Huard from the RIPTB.

On July 5, the partnership agreement between Place Rosemère and the RIPTB was renewed, more than fifteen years after the first agreement signed in October 2006. For these past years this cooperation for the smooth running of the mall has proven invaluable especially during the pandemic times.

This collaboration between the two partners aims to maintain quality standards during security interventions, involve merchants in the prevention and reporting of crime and finally maintain the feeling of security of customers, for a pleasant and safe environment!

This partnership makes it possible to offer police services directly on the premises and to work in collaboration with the security officers of Place Rosemère and other merchants. It also makes it possible to better inform and assist customers, intervene quickly and effectively with residents and merchants, ensure a presence during special events, implement prevention projects, and ultimately offer personalized service at Place Rosemère.

“This project is part of the RIPTB’s proactive security and local service strategy. Crime prevention, the partnership with Place Rosemère and problem solving through analysis and information on emerging phenomena are part of this strategy. The presence of a police officer at Place Rosemère makes it possible to prevent a significant amount of fraud, shoplifting, thefts from and in vehicles, also allows rapid assistance to citizens and above all increases the feeling of security for customers and employees of Place Rosemère,” said Inspector Martin Charron of the RIPTB. “We are proud of the continuation of this agreement year after year. This service is, without a doubt, indispensable and essential. It helps us ensure safety for our customers, our tenants and our employees. » added Brian Deslauriers of Place Rosemère. “We would like to thank agent Éric Huard for the quality of the work accomplished.”

Road safety campaign 2022: “Take the time to live. Slow down.”

from left to right, top to bottom: Martin Charron, Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville; Martin Gagnon, Terrebonne Police Department; Bruno Denis, Saint-Eustache Police Department; Alexandra Brunet, Lac des Deux-Montagnes Police Department; Sara Tousignant, Blainville Police Department; Yves Roy, municipal councillor of Saint-Eustache; Yves Tessier, Blainville Police Department; Thierry Vallières, Saint-Eustache Police Department; Christian Coutu, Saint-Eustache Police Department; Keven Renière, municipal councillor of Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines; Pascal Quevillon, Mayor of Oka; Pierre Charron, Mayor of Saint-Eustache; Marouan Bel Fakir, SAAQ; Jean-Philippe Labbé, Lac des Deux-Montagnes Police Department; Daniel Goyer, municipal councilor of Saint-Eustache; Catherine Boyer, Sûreté du Québec.

In collaboration with the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), the City of Saint-Eustache announced the launch of its new road safety campaign, under the slogan ” Take the time to live. Slow down. “. The announcement was made in the presence of the mayor of Saint-Eustache, Mr. Pierre Charron, of Mr. Yves Roy, municipal councillor, president of the Commission of circulation and transports, of Mr. Daniel Goyer, municipal councillor, vice -president of the Commission of circulation and transports, and Mr. Marouan Bel Fakir, adviser in relations with the community at the SAAQ. They were accompanied by representatives of the Régie intermunicipale de police Thérèse-De Blainville, the Sûreté du Québec, the Terrebonne police department, the Lac des Deux-Montagnes police department, the Blainville and the Saint-Eustache Police Departments, as well as elected officials from the region.

This vast operation aims to make motorists and motorcyclists aware of speeding in residential areas: “Speeding in residential areas is a very worrying issue for the population in terms of road safety and is a priority for the municipal council. We hope that this original campaign will have a significant impact and will sensitize motorists and motorcyclists to review their driving habits. Everyone’s safety and well-being are at stake,” said the mayor of Saint-Eustache, Mr. Pierre Charron.

A necessary awareness

A flash poll conducted by the Communications Department of the City of Saint-Eustache revealed that citizens regularly admit to exceeding the speed limit, in particular because of distraction, when pressed for time, or because they “go at the same speed as the others”. The campaign “Take the time to live. Slow down.” wishes to be a benevolent reminder that speeding behind the wheel is everyone’s business.

Exceeding the speed limit, even a little, is seen as normal, even trivialized for a large majority of the population. Through this collaboration, the SAAQ wishes to raise awareness among the citizens of Saint-Eustache and thus reduce the number of accidents and deaths due to speeding.

An eye-catching campaign

Over the next few weeks, citizens will be able to observe the appearance of awareness signs in many residential areas of the city. This display will be supported by an advertising campaign that can be seen on local buses and bus shelters, the City’s electronic signs, in the municipal newsletter, on the saint-eustache.ca and on social media (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

A regional issue

It is clear that this issue is not unique to Saint-Eustache. Indeed, several towns and municipalities in the region served by the police forces mentioned above, such as Sainte-Anne-des-Plaines, Oka, Blainville, Terrebonne, and Mirabel, have also joined the movement and will roll out the campaign on their territory in the coming weeks, also as part of the SAAQ’s 2021-2025 road safety prevention strategy.
