Denis Breton on the forefront of the electric car revolution

0
With 25 electric cars sold Marc-André Sauvageau, general director of Denis Breton Chevrolet Buick GMC proudly announced that the dealership is the top electric car seller in the Greater Montreal area.

An exclusive interview with Marc-André Sauvageau, general director of Denis Breton Chevrolet Buick GMC

Dimitris Ilias

During a year of Covid blues for a big sector of the Quebec business world, how did the car retail business do? I discovered surprising facts during my interview with Marc-André Sauvageau, general director of Denis Breton Chevrolet Buick GMC in Saint-Eustache.

About Denis Breton
Denis Breton is an ex-GM employee who switched to retail. He was first employed in manufacturing at GM but preferred to open this single dealership in Saint-Eustache which now celebrated 30 years in existence and satisfied customers. Denis Breton Chevrolet Buick GMC, located at 364 rue Dubois, in Saint-Eustache, embodies GM’s new Image concept. When Denis Breton bought the Chevrolet Buick GMC dealership in Saint-Eustache in 1991, he already had a very specific project in mind: to give this company a taste of the year 2000, to make it a leader that would serve as an example for the entire automotive industry. With fifteen years of experience at GM Canada, notably as zone manager for the Montreal region, he began by recruiting a group of dynamic people who shared his vision for the future. In 1996, Denis Breton found its current home located at 364 Dubois Street, along Highway 640. The new building, designed according to the standards of GM’s Image 2000 program, offers a large showroom that can hold up to eleven vehicles, a state-of-the-art indoor service area and a host of amenities focused on quality and efficiency. After surviving GM’s restructuring in 2009, Denis Breton renovated again and in February 2011 the completely new garage was inaugurated.
Covid and GM
As the pandemic hit, the entire business world passed in to a twilight zone period of uncertainty. M. Sauvageau confirmed that the dealership was fortunate not to be affected. “We are a lucky business sector. We stayed open initially with 4 mechanics for minor repairs but thankfully that did not last long. In 6 weeks, we reopened and we had an explosion of sales. People always need a car. However, we sympathize enormously with other sectors such as Restaurants, Arts & Entertainment and others who have been hard hit for 1 year.” said Sauvageau. The current curfew also did not have an effect since M. Sauvageau and his team had decided not to stay open late at night anyway. They used to close at 8pm and now they close at 6pm. “We found that as more and more people were working at home, most of our clients would visit the dealership during the day”. In terms of covid sanitation measures, the dealership went the extra mile to not only wash and sanitise each car before a repair and after but hired a full-time employee charged with maintaining the strict covid sanitation rules. The disinfection stations, Plexiglas between the salesmen and the customers and proper signage were all too prominent during my visit. Also, clients never form lines because most of the times they come by appointment.
Denis Breton lucky spot
The DG of Denis Breton, also spoke with great enthusiasm about the dealership being visited by Lady Luck twice within the last year and a half. One was one of their clients winning a Chevrolet Trax as part of the Canadian Tire Bon Depart contest and recently Yanick Bordeleau from Saint-Eustache who won a Chevrolet Trailblazer RS 2021 from the McDonalds Monopoly contest.
Pickups reign supreme
Marc-André Sauvageau confirmed that pickup trucks still remain very popular with Saint-Eustache residents. It is not only the fact that they are important tools for landscapers, in construction, agriculture etc, but there is a we love our pickup mentality prevalent outside Montreal. A lot of people use them to attach trailers and since the Laurentians are nearby, a pickup truck is the vehicle of choice when visiting the chalet. The DG is noticing a change of trend with a lot of people buying pickups that drive more like ordinary cars thus using them both as a working vehicle and as a family car. Small SUVs are also a favorite and a lot of people are replacing cars with this type of multifunction vehicle.
Rise of the electrics!
M. Sauvageau could not contain his excitement about GMs electric cars. With 25 electric cars sold he proudly announced that the dealership is the top electric car seller in the Greater Montreal area. Himself an owner of a Chevrolet Bolt for 7 years, Sauvageau testified to the unique features and reliability of the car as well as the positive response from his clientele. With 417 km of range, even after all these years of use and in the middle of winter the car still gives him 300 km per charge. For the hesitant clients Sauvageau confirms the 8-year warranty on the battery but even after, a lot of people having used the car for almost 10 years never had to change batteries while observing a very small drop in efficiency. Longevity is assured by GMs proprietary battery saving technology and Mr. Sauvageau mentioned examples of Bolts with 300,000 kms of use having lost only 5% of battery efficiency. A full charge of the battery costs only about $4.

75th anniversary: Boisbriand, a story to tell

0
Amédée Dion, the first mayor of Boisbriand (then Sainte-Thérèse-Ouest)

In 2021, the City of Boisbriand is celebrating its 75th anniversary. It was on January 1, 1946 that the municipality of Sainte-Thérèse-Ouest was founded, following its detachment from the parish of Sainte-Thérèse de Blainville. It is also the fruit of a long political struggle that began in 1925 and during which politicians and citizens got involved. Here is a brief overview the history of Boisbriand.

“Boisbriand’s history is rich and goes well beyond its own borders. It was here, in 1683, precisely where Highway 15 crosses the Chemin de la Grande-Côte that the first seigneury was granted to Sieur de Boisbriand Michel-Sidrac Du Gué by King Louis XIV. The City of Boisbriand is 75 years old, but the origins of its history go back more than 338 years, ”says Mayor Marlene Cordato.

The initial territory of Sainte-Thérèse-Ouest (49.98 km2) became fragmented over the years, as land was ceded to neighboring towns, notably Blainville, Sainte-Thérèse and more recently, Saint-Eustache. The largest transfer, an area of 18.46 km2, was granted to the City of Mirabel in 1969, when the federal government expropriated a large area to allow the development of the future Mirabel airport. Today, Boisbriand covers an area of 27.83 km2.

Highlights in the history of Boisbriand:

1946     Birth of the municipality of Sainte-Thérèse-Ouest. The first mayor, Amédée Dion, will keep his post until his death on February 27, 1951. City councilor Gustave Desjardins will succeed him.

Construction of Autoroute 15

1962

Construction of Autoroute 640

1964

Arrival of General Motors in Sainte-Thérèse-Ouest

1969

The Town is required to get rid of part of its territory, now part of the Town of Mirabel.

1970

On July 15, the status of town is granted to Sainte-Thérèse-Ouest.

1974

On March 16, 1974, the Town of Sainte-Thérèse-Ouest officially becomes the Town of Boisbriand. The population is then 9,000 residents. Today it has more than 27,000 citizens.

1975

Commissioning of Autoroute 13

Over the next few months, the history of Boisbriand will be told in various ways, notably through publications in Info Boisbriand and on the Town’s website, as well as through conferences.

The City also invites citizens who wish to provide photos or tell anecdotes about the history of Boisbriand to do so by email at mairie@ville.boisbriand.qc.ca.

In recent weeks, the City has received declarations of illegal solicitations in Bois-des-Filion, so it is asking citizens to be vigilant when people come to their homes. The CISSS des Laurentides obtains Healthy Enterprise certification

The Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS) des Laurentides announced that it has obtained its Healthy Enterprise certification. It thus becomes an organization recognized for setting up initiatives having a significant impact on the mobilization, health and well-being of the staff in its employ.

This success represents a big step forward for the CISSS, which is delighted to see the culmination of this process started in 2016 and supervised by the Bureau de normalization du Québec (BNQ).

Focusing on the prevention and promotion of practices favorable to health and well-being in the workplace, the Healthy Enterprise standard focuses on four spheres of activity: Lifestyle (physical activities, healthy eating, smoking prevention , stress management, etc.), management practices (recognition, change management, support for work teams and others.), work-life balance (work-life balance, employee assistance program , support in the workplace) and the work environment (ergonomics, identification of risks, arrangement favorable to healthy lifestyles, rest and socialization area, practices for returning to work after a prolonged absence.)

Last December, during the virtual audit of the entire process, the BNQ auditors notably emphasized that management and managers are making efforts to promote the health and well-being of members of the organization, despite the challenges related to the context of the current pandemic.

“This Healthy Enterprise certification confirms all the work accomplished to date. I remain convinced that the importance given to this approach represents an asset for our organization, by making it possible to promote the health and well-being of our employees and, by the same token, by positioning us as an employer of choice. I can only applaud this excellent news, particularly during this period of upheaval, when we all need to take care of ourselves,” announced the President and CEO of the CISSS des Laurentides, Ms. Rosemonde Landry.

Center Aquatique du Lac in Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac

A multigenerational project in harmony with nature!

Ms Sonia Paulus the mayoresses of Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac, presented the details of the Lake Aquatic Center, construction of which will begin next June on land transferred to the Town of Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac in 2017 (in compensation for park purposes) and which is adjacent to Parc Félix-Leclerc. Carried out with joint financial assistance from Ottawa and Quebec City totaling $ 6 million, this major project with a future for all generations of Marthelacquoises and Marthelacquois should open its doors towards the end of 2022.

A multigenerational place

Much awaited by citizens of all generations, the new aquatic center will include four pools, the main one consisting of eight lanes 25 meters in length and diving platforms, allowing high-level training and the holding of regional competitions. Annexed to the main pool, three recreational pools will delight children, adolescents and fans of swimming against the tide. In addition, the Center Aquatique du Lac will be aimed at the entire population, with its universal cloakroom, regardless of age or physical condition, and will be specially designed for people with reduced mobility, in accordance with the concept of universal accessibility. .

In harmony with nature

The Center Aquatique du Lac was designed to reflect the soul of the city and its residents, both in the choice of location, near Félix-Leclerc Park and the bike path, and in the project design. The proximity of the lake, the trees and the nature that emerges from the plans and models is sure to please everyone. The layout and orientation of the building will enhance the natural environment all around, and the abundant windows will reinforce the feeling of proximity to the outside. A redevelopment of Parc Félix-Leclerc is planned in the project, as well as landscaping including massive planting of new trees.

Timeline

The project design (architecture and engineering) is carried out by the TLA + Coursol Miron consortium and the GBI engineering firm. The next step for the realization of the project consists of the call for tenders for the construction of the building. The first shovelful of earth is expected in June 2021 and an official opening is targeted at the end of 2022, with construction scheduled to take place over 18 months.

“I know how much the aquatic center is desired by all citizens, because they talk to me about it regularly. It is a project that is close to my heart, especially since we do it while respecting the environment and especially in the image of Marthelacquoises and Marthelacquois: a project with a human dimension. We want a beautiful center that will generate moments of pleasure, relaxation and surpassing oneself, in addition to arousing pride in our population.” said the mayoress.
